Have you ever been concerned for the well-being of a student who works in your office? Or maybe you interacted with a student demonstrating concerning behavior? What can you do to support students that are experiencing crisis and what resources are available at Mason? This program will expose attendees to topics related to students in crisis and students of concern. The presentation will cover the membership, philosophy, and activity of the University Life CARE Team. The CARE Team is composed of staff members from the following offices: Student Support and Advocacy Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Housing and Residence Life, and Disability Services. The CARE Team works collaboratively throughout the entire year in an effort to coordinate prevention, intervention, and support efforts across campus and community systems to assist at-risk students and students facing crises, life traumas, and other barriers that impede academic and personal success. Participants will engage in case study scenarios. The experiential learning activity will help individuals gain knowledge regarding how to respond to and assist students in crisis and students of concern and make the appropriate referrals to resources. There will be time allotted for large group processing and questions.
